Pelican Rotoflex, the Rajkot-based manufacturer of rotogravure presses and converting machines for the flexible packaging industry, is witnessing a surge in demand from both domestic and international markets. Operating from its newly established 24-acre manufacturing plant, the company is currently fulfilling a large number of orders from around the globe.
According to Sanat Gandhi, senior technical executive at Pelican Rotoflex, the global rise in flexible packaging and gravure printing has led to a significant increase in the demand for rotogravure presses. “At present, gravure printing is growing rapidly in India and other parts of the world, and this growth has translated into higher demand for our machines,” he said in a recent conversation.
Gandhi said that the company was processing multiple international orders, including shipments for Dubai, Iraq, and Turkey. At the time of the interaction, nine rotogravure machines were in the assembly stage at the facility, with one scheduled for export to Dubai. Highlighting the plant’s productivity, Gandhi said, “We are now releasing one rotogravure press every 12 days.”
As reported earlier, the machining and assembly hall at the new Pelican factory campus is now separate, with its doubled assembly capacity. In addition, the company has acquired several large industrial plots for its exponential expansion plans. The Rajkot area has emerged as an important industrial center for the food and packaging industries in the country, in addition to its efficient mechanical engineering companies with benchmarked quality in metallurgy, fine-tolerance machining of components and integration of mechatronics with the latest computer-based control and automation systems.
During our recent visit to Bangalore, Lalith Jain, director of Colorflex, shared his experience with Pelican’s technical support team. Jain recounted how the team helped transport and reinstall their Pelican Solomark 1300 mm rotogravure press at the new Colorflex facility in Tavarekere.
“The Pelican Solomark press was the first rotogravure press in Bangalore when we purchased it back in 2020,” Jain said. “Now, with our shift to a new location, the Pelican team provided the required support in reinstalling the machine within a very short timeframe.” Full-scale operations at Colorflex’s new plant are expected to commence by June 2025.
Gandhi mentioned a recent installation of a solventless laminator at Sanraj Polyprinters in Rajkot. “Sanraj has been one of our long-standing customers,” he noted. “Along with the solventless laminator, its plant in Rajkot also has installed a Pelican rotogravure press.”
