“At Packplus we are displaying our coding and marking solutions from products to pallets which basically cover thermal inkjet printer, thermal inkjet over printer, large character coding,” says Anand of Domino Digital Printing Solutions. “The highlight of the show is Macrojet 3 and C7 laser printer. Macrojet 3 is the latest large character inkjet printer which provides robust and reliable coding on various substrates used in secondary packaging. The C7 laser printer was launched just a few days ago.”

The Macrojet 3 can be used with a wide range of inks, which are suitable for porous and non-porous surfaces from metal and plastic, paper or timber. “The print drop size of the printer can be adjusted for the substrate to be coded, offering the best print quality for the application. The printer is also capable of printing multiple lines of alphanumeric codes onto many different surfaces,” says Anand.

The C7 printer is capable of printing large characters on secondary packaging. Built on Inkjet technology, the printer uses water-based inks. “C7 coders eliminates the need for costly additional labelling on outer case packaging, resulting in improved inventory management,” says Anand. “This one-line printer is mainly for food and cement industries.”

Speaking about the Packplus experience, Anand says, “In this show, we have been able to meet a couple of prospective customers. We are also able to spend quality time with our customers because the footfall is steady and regular helping us avoid interaction overlapping as well as not letting us sit idle.”

Brother takes over Domino

PPD15 logoJapanese multinational Brother acquired the Cambridge-based Domino in June 2015. According to Brother, the strength of Domino’s customer base across its coding and marking business, and its desire to develop the scope and coverage of the digital printing sector are the key reasons for the acquisition. The Domino brand and management structure remains unaltered after the acquisition, with Domino Printing Sciences operating as an autonomous division within Brother Industries. Nigel Bond, CEO of Domino Printing Sciences, says, “Brother respects and values Domino’s brand equity, technologies and strategic vision for the business and the markets it serves. As such, the companies will be working closely together on natural growth opportunities, as well as explore collaborative possibilities to develop new products.”
