Gea, a systems supplier for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors, displayed its range of products at the InterFoodTech exhibition in New Delhi. The German company showed its packaging solutions for bottling lines for beverages, the Gea SmartPacker CX400 vertical form fill seal (VFFS) and Gea SmartPacker SX400 horizontal form fill seal machines (HFFS) for the frozen food industry and the Gea PowerPak Plus thermoforming packaging machine.

The company’s Indian headquarters is located in Vadodara in Gujarat with branch offices in Bengaluru, Pune and Delhi. The company handles Nepal and Bangladesh from its Vadodara head office. The thermoforming machines and VFFS machines are currently being imported from Germany and installed in Indian locations, Mahesh Khatri, sales manager at Gea told Packaging South Asia.

Gea currently operates in five different segments in India – dairy, beverages, frozen foods, pharma, and chemicals, he said, adding that the company’s bottling machines are designed and fabricated according to customer requirements.

The Gea SmartPacker SX400 is a bagger, handling a wide range of pouch styles and weights up to 10 kg/bag and 100 bags per minute. The Gea CX 400, on the other hand, can handle bag widths between 70 mm and 400 mm and up to 120 bags per minute. It also offers a wide choice of pouch styles and technical options to suit various food applications.

The Gea PowerPak Plus thermoforming packaging machine packs food products such as meat and processed meat, cheese, fish and seafood, vegetarian or vegan products, fruits and vegetables or dairy and bakery products. All well-known package types – such as MAP, skin and vacuum packs, can be produced with the machine.

On the InterFoodTech exhibition, he said, “Overall, our experience at the exhibition has been good. We got a good influx of visitors and existing customers. Most of the visitors were looking at frozen food lines, beverage lines and packaging solutions.”
