Indian public sector company Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) will commence resin production at its state-of-the-art petrochemical plant in Pachpadra, approximately 80 km from Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Resins such as LLDPE, HDP and PP will be used to manufacture films and flexible packaging materials. Sugata Chaudhuri, head of petrochemicals at HPCL, shared the news during the company’s first-ever participation in Plastivision 2023, held in Mumbai from December 7 to 11.
“We will begin manufacturing resins such as LLDPE, HDP and PP at our Rajasthan plant in a year when the plant is ready. Demand for flexible packaging is very robust in India and will continue to be in years to come. With growing income, Indians are consuming more packaged goods, even in tier 2 and 3 towns. This bodes well for the flexible packaging industry. By manufacturing resins in India, we are helping the Atmanirbhar Bharat endeavor,” Chaudhuri said.
HPCL’s focus on sustainability
Chaudhuri highlighted HPCL’s commitment to using recycled plastic in its packaging. HPCL is a big consumer of rigid packaging, which is used in packing its lubricants. The company has voluntarily adopted a policy of incorporating 20% recycled plastic in all blow-molded containers used for packing lubricants.
“We have voluntarily decided to use 20% recycled plastic in all our blow-molded containers that we use to pack our lubricants. This initiative reflects HPCL’s dedication to responsible corporate practices and environmental stewardship, with nearly 6,000 tons of recycled plastic being utilized annually in their packaging materials,” he said.

First time at Plastivision
Having participated in Plastivision for the first time, HPCL expressed satisfaction with the experience. Chaudhuri remarked on the positive turnout and fruitful discussions with visitors during the event.
“We were at Plastivision for the first time and we have had an amazing experience. The footfall was great and we met a lot of visitors and had fruitful discussions,” Chaudhuri concluded.
