Ahmedabad-based Maharshi is a leading manufacturer of packaging machinery, supplying mostly to the label industry. At ProPak, where the company had its stand this year, we met Jignesh Dani, the company’s marketing director. He spoke about Maharshi’s participation in the event and about the products on display. “The core objective behind our participation was to meet new people, generate enquiries and share view and opinions with stakeholders from the packaging industry. Apart from this, we’re also here to display our shrink sleeve machine for decoration of products,” said Dani.

Maharshi’s shrink sleeve machine is used for decoration apart from labeling or direct printing on bottles. This machine is very popular for cost-effective product decoration. Other decoration methods such as self-adhesion are a tad expensive when compared to shrink sleeves. This method is also beneficial for the decoration of asymmetrical products, ones that have varied shapes and sizes. Sleeving has grown in practice over the past years to become a convenient option for convertors for product decoration.

Steady growth of label industry in India

“So far, we see there is a good response considering the fact that this is the first edition of the event. I’m sure that in the years to come and with more editions of the show, the event will turn out to be a huge success in the packaging industry. It will attract big players from the industry to participate and exhibit their products. We have been associated with UBM for many years now; we participate in every event organized by UBM for the packaging industry. So, the moment they decided to come up with the first edition of ProPak, we agreed to participate,” shared Dani.

“The label industry as I understand is growing at a stable rate of 10–12% per annum. If we look at the Indian label industry in comparison to the global market such as Europe or US, I think we’re still struggling at single digits in terms of consumption of self-adhesive labels. There is undoubtedly a tremendous scope for growth in the industry,” Dani added.

Maharshi has been bringing one or the other kind of innovation every now and then to come up with newer and improved technologies. In fact, the first self-adhesive label machine was introduced to the Indian market by Maharshi. The company, however, does not plan to participate at the Labelexpo India show, according to Dani.
