Packaging machine manufacturing major W&H has just concluded a major project at Hyderabad-based Vijayneha Polymers’ new flexible packaging unit where it has installed two printing presses and two blown film lines. The German firm has installed a Heliostar S rotogravure press and a Miraflex A flexographic press. W&H has also supplied a 3-layer blown film extrusion line and a 7-layer blown film extrusion line.

“We see this project as a major development for W&H in India. Vijayneha’s new plant is an excellent greenfield project in a growing Indian market. The W&H technologies that we have supplied are future ready, especially from the point of Packaging 4.0,” says Peter Steinbeck, managing partner, W&H. “We are delighted that we have contributed to this project with a variety of technologies such as gravure, flexo and blown film.”

Steinbeck believes more and more Indian companies are adopting world-class technologies to compete at the world stage. According to him, earlier, Indian companies were more focused on the domestic market but in recent years the focus has also shifted to the export markets. “Locally in India customers are demanding better packaging quality. With this rising demand and the global markets in mind, many Indian companies are opting for solutions offered by W&H,” he adds.

As a technology leader, W&H offers solutions that serve the top end of the market. However, Steinbeck says that the company is also able to cater to the middle segment in India by offering solutions that fit exactly to the needs of the customers. “Customers can choose from the W&H portfolio according to their needs. Not every customer needs every feature. We can offer customized products according to the customer needs and price range,” he says.

W&H India on expansion path

For W&H, India has not been the fastest-growing market, but the growth has been consistent. W&H is present with its own subsidiary in India since 1996. Today W&H India is a sales and service entity that is also catering to many countries apart from India.

“W&H India will grow further, and we are ready to broaden the responsibility beyond India wherever suitable,” he concludes.
