Cortec’s best-selling CorShield VpCI-146 paper got better for the environment with the addition of Eco-bio technology. As packaging pollution becomes an increasing concern in today’s society, Cortec has been looking into keeping the environment cleaner while offering top-quality corrosion protection. CorShield VpCI-146 paper with Eco-bio technology does that by enhancing the biodegradable and compostable characteristics of a naturally sourced paper that provides reliable corrosion protection on both sides.

Cortec VpCI paper brings circular economy

CorShield VpCI-146 paper brings the circular economy of responsible sourcing and disposal to reality in more than one way. To start with, CorShield VpCI-146 is a USDA-certified biobased product that contains 92% USDA-certified biobased content. Furthermore, it is made from 100% recycled content paper, doubling its sustainable sourcing.

At the end of the product life cycle, CorShield VpCI-146 has multiple disposal options. First, it is recyclable and repulpable, giving users the option of sending it for reprocessing into new paper products. Second, and most recently, it is designed to be commercially compostable. Not long ago, the paper underwent compostable disintegration testing according to ASTM D6868 in Cortec laboratories. CorShield VpCI-146 disintegrated in just ten weeks, faster than the duration allowed by the ASTM method.

Industry’s Premium VpCI Paper

CorShield VpCI-146 with Eco-bio technology is the premium corrosion inhibiting paper in the industry. It relies on Cortec’s patented biodegradable and compostable Vapor phase corrosion inhibiting technology to protect metals inside an enclosed package. Both sides of CorShield VpCI-146 paper offer adequate protection to ferrous and non-ferrous metals, eliminating the need to stock various papers for different metal types.

Corrosion protection is achieved by wrapping metal items in the paper, folding the edges together, and taping as needed to hold the paper in place. The VpCI coating on the paper vaporizes, reaching all metal surfaces within the package to provide complete corrosion protection with a very thin, very effective VpCI layer that does not alter product appearance or require removal before further finishing or use.

Convenient and Comprehensive Protection

CorShield VpCI-146 is an extremely suitable material that combines corrosion protection and packaging into one step. Metal manufacturers, finishers, and shippers can use it to protect dry or oiled metals during storage, transit, and overseas shipment. It can be used for interleaving layers of parts, wrapping parts, or capping the ends of tubes. It protects multiple metal types and is effective against aggressive environments, including humidity, SO2, H2S, and galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals.

It is a great backup “insurance plan,” as it were, to protect against unpredictable changing environments that could foster condensation corrosion or other unwelcome oxidative reactions on metal. For greater convenience and adaptability to the user’s needs, Cortec now offers CorShield VpCI-146 perforated on a roll as much as 48 inches (1.2 m) wide, large enough for pallet packaging.
