Faridabad-based Boettcher India, a manufacturer of rollers for presses, is taking significant steps toward sustainability. A subsidiary of Germany’s Boettcher Systems, Boettcher India talks about its growing R&D in production processes that are good for the environment and products that contribute to a lower carbon footprint, and help customers in environmental compliances and sustainability.
“Boettcher is a family-owned business with Franz-Georg Heggemann, chairman and his son Max Heggemann, director. They are leading the company’s efforts to make the products sustainable and environment-friendly. Driven by the head office, all our factories worldwide are making such sustainable products and trying to provide these to customers globally,” said Sandeep Saini, managing director.
Saini says team effort has helped them to grow consistently. Part of it, he says, is organic growth when their customers grow. Innovative products are another growth driver.
“Like all companies, we had a challenging time during the pandemic, but recovery was pretty quick and we have been growing consistently,” says Saini. “We presented to the market solutions for food grade/toy packaging and printing, all Boettcher rubber compounds that are phthalates-free. This is an important subject for packaging printers dealing with liquid or food-grade packaging. If the customers are making boxes for toys, a major concern is that there should be absolutely nothing in it. The printed box could have heavy metals and phthalates, which could potentially cause cancer. These heavy metals can come from ink, varnish, and paper board.”
Boettcher’s growth plans
Saini said they are adding a new factory, where they will make up to 4.5-meter-long rollers that can be as big as 800mm in diameter. “We have already ordered equipment from the Boettcher engineering division Germany, which manufactures all machines and equipment for our factories globally. We hope the building will come up by this year-end. We plan to inaugurate the factory by January. With this added capacity, we will be able to expand services in the industries such as textile, wood, coatings, aluminum, steel, and ceramic tiles.”
Boettcher is very optimistic about the new plant. The manufacturer said, “It is part of the make-in-India project, which will lead to increased employment opportunities. Over a period of 3-5 years, we hope to double up our manpower. After the commissioning of the new factory, the production capacity will be enhanced by eight times. Capacity was never a constraint for us. The idea to build a new factory was to add to different segments of the business. The industry is doing well and the rubber roller industry is going to grow with the new press installed.”
“We will have our global standard at Drupa 2024 and we will be there to take care of our customers. Since the last edition was canceled due to the pandemic, the anticipation for this Drupa is even greater. As for the expectations from the exhibition, we are optimistic,” he concludes.
