We recently had a conversation with Narendra and Mahendra Paruchuri of Pragati in Hyderabad about luxury hard box manufacturing, which they in fact have been doing for almost 15 years. Pragati Pack has set up a new 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art plant near the airport in Hyderabad with specialized machinery used for the several processes in luxury hard box making and also for producing outserts for pharmaceutical packaging.

Pragati has also set up a plant in Noida which is dedicated to cell phone boxes since that location has become a hub for cell phone manufacturers, including Samsung, Xiomi, Lava, Intex, Vivo, Carbon and Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron, which makes phones for LG, One Plus, HTC and Oppo. Oppo is building its own large phone manufacturing plant in Noida.

We asked the Paruchuri brothers about the number of box making machines being imported and installed and whether this could lead to overcapacity in the market. Their polite suggestion is that printers should be examining the opportunity as a whole rather than merely seeing the near future and the immediate competition. Narendra Paruchuri, who has been an award-winning luxury box maker for many years, was nevertheless confident because of the company’s extensive experience in handling the intricacies that the niche requires. He said, “We think we have a lot of intellectual property that we have accumulated in this area over the years along with the technology investments that we keep on making. We also think that the market is yet to develop.”
