Boxpool, a company based in Ahmedabad, specializes in converting and supplying monocartons and 3-ply corrugated cartons to brands in the food and home alliances sector.

Operating from a manufacturing unit located just outside the city, Boxpool recently upgraded its capabilities with the installation of a new Bobst Novafold 110 A2 folder gluer, featuring 4 & 6 corner attachments, specialized cartons and a corrugation kit. While Boxpool outsources its printing work to third-party printers, the investment in the Novafold has proven to be a game-changer for the company.

Prakash Suchak, the owner of Boxpool, shares his reasons behind the investment: “Before finalizing the Bobst Novafold, we did a lot of homework as it was a big investment for us. We talked to Bobst users, those who bought a new machine as well as those with pre-owned ones. We saw the machine in action as well. We got very good feedback from the owners. We went to the Bobst factory in Pune. However, getting finance was a hurdle initially but ultimately everything fell into place and we closed the deal.”

The Novafold, introduced to the Indian market in November of the previous year, was showcased by Bobst India during the Pamex 2023 exhibition held in Mumbai in March 2023. The machine’s capabilities were demonstrated on a public platform in India for the first time during this event, where Bobst showcased its performance by completing two special jobs on the Novafold.

Major improvement in converting productivity

Since commissioning the Novafold in April, Boxpool has experienced significant improvements in its converting productivity. Suchak says: “The Novafold is operator-friendly and requires minimal labor. With other machines, we were extremely labor-dependent, which created a lot of uncertainties for us. Now that issue has been solved as anybody can operate it. The speed Novafold offers is amazing, and we can now process a much higher number of cartons in far less time. This has given us the confidence to take on a variety of jobs such as 4 & 6 corner cartons that we could not do with our other folder gluers. When we bought the Bobst, we were unsure if we would get enough jobs to justify the investment. But now we have enough jobs running on the Novafold. Our production has doubled.”

Working with smaller brands and startups

Boxpool‘s strategic focus on working with startups and smaller brands has proven successful, allowing the company the freedom to experiment and introduce innovative ideas.

“The owners of smaller brands and startups are far more open to the new ideas that we offer to them. This is not the case with bigger brands. These large brands have their own ideas and they are not ready to budge. Going forward, we will continue to work mostly with these smaller brands. We have a lot of interesting ideas for them,” Suchak explains.

The adoption of advanced technology such as the Bobst Novafold and Boxpool’s commitment to serving smaller brands reflects the company’s drive to enhance its competitiveness and contribute to the success of its clients in the dynamic packaging industry.
