At CMPL 2025 in Mumbai, UFlex showcased its latest innovations in tube packaging, focusing on aesthetic enhancement, anti-counterfeiting solutions, and sustainability. Subrata Bose, senior vice-president – tubes, flexible packaging business, UFlex, explained how the company is positioning its tube packaging solutions to meet the evolving needs of personal care, pharmaceutical, and oral care brands, both in India and global markets.
UFlex, India’s largest multinational flexible packaging and solutions company, is set to accelerate growth in its tubes business, which has built strong momentum over the last 15 years. One of its key strengths lies in the use of reverse printing technology, which offers enhanced durability and elevated shelf appeal.
“What may seem like a typical tube on the surface is engineered for superior performance,” said Bose. “Reverse printing allows for richer design coverage, improved scuff resistance, and long-lasting visual quality, ensuring the packaging looks premium throughout its lifecycle.”
In the personal care segment, these visual enhancements are crafted to deliver immediate shelf impact. “For brands without massive advertising budgets, packaging becomes the first brand ambassador. If it doesn’t catch the eye, the customer may never pick it up,” Bose said.
To address concerns in the pharmaceutical sector, UFlex is incorporating advanced anti-counterfeiting technologies directly into its tube structures. These include both overt and covert holographic features that help brands safeguard against duplication. “We have seen success with leading pharmaceutical companies facing challenges with counterfeiting,” said Subrata Bose. “Our integrated holography—virtually impossible to replicate using currently available local technologies—provides a highly effective and reliable solution.”
On the sustainability front, UFlex offers two distinct solutions: recyclable mono-material tubes and tubes made with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. With Indian regulations now mandating a minimum percentage of PCR in packaging, UFlex says it is well-positioned to comply with these requirements. “We produce our USFDA-approved PCR films at our Noida facility and are expanding our recycling infrastructure,” Bose said. “This level of vertical integration streamlines the supply chain and makes PCR-based packaging more accessible and cost-effective.”
The company says its presence at CMPL 2025 underlines the important role contract manufacturers play in shaping packaging strategies. “Many contract manufacturers either influence or make final calls on packaging,” Bose explained. “They work with multiple brands—especially new or mid-sized ones—and are a vital channel for us to introduce new packaging innovations.”
He emphasized the importance of proactive outreach over passive participation. “Exhibitions aren’t just about showcasing—we’re here to connect,” he said. “Our team is actively engaging with visitors, brand owners, and contract manufacturers. These conversations help build relationships and lay the groundwork for future collaborations.”
With growth tapering in certain FMCG segments, Bose sees packaging innovation as a key growth lever. “To drive sales, brands need to offer something distinctive and authentic. Our tubes help deliver that story—visually, functionally, and sustainably,” he added.
