From 8–10 July 2026, gravure takes center stage in Stuttgart, Germany, as professionals gather for a GRA Basic Gravure Seminar.
Ideal for newcomers and professionals, it has practical, industry-focused content and enables direct exchange with experienced experts. It is designed to provide a clear and structured introduction to gravure technology – from prepress and cylinder preparation to printing and process understanding.
Designed as a compact yet comprehensive introduction, the three-day course guides participants through every essential step of gravure technology. From copper electroplating and cylinder surface finishing to electromechanical engraving and printing with varying ink viscosities, attendees experience the full production chain firsthand.
Hosted at Stuttgart Media University—the only university in Europe operating a complete gravure line from cylinder preparation to rotogravure printing—the seminar offers a unique learning environment. In the university’s specialized laboratories, participants not only observe but actively engage in each stage of the process. They design a layout, help prepare and engrave a cylinder, and print it on different paper types, all supported by professional quality control and measuring systems.
The course also introduces modern technologies such as laser-assisted etching and laser engraving, while touching on new developments in cylinder surfaces. The program blends structured theory with live demonstrations and practical exercises, ensuring knowledge is both clear and directly applicable to daily operations.
Limited to just 10 participants per course, the seminar guarantees hands-on involvement and direct exchange with experienced industry experts, the organizers said in a post. It is ideal for newcomers to gravure as well as professionals from printing, cylinder engraving, reproduction studios, and the broader supply chain who want to refresh or strengthen their technical fundamentals.
