Checkpoint Systems, a leading AIPIA member offering RFID solutions for retail and industry, has introduced Readfinity, a next-generation all-in-one RFID reader family designed to support the operational demands of today’s rapidly evolving retail environment.

Combining ultra-fast item-level RFID reading, real-time embedded processing, and seamless integration with existing POS infrastructures, self-service kiosks, and others, it moves beyond the role of a traditional reader. It is a scalable, compact, and powerful intelligent retail platform designed to streamline today’s operations, reduce system complexity, and lay the foundation for more intelligent, connected stores, according to the company.

RFID is a strategic enabler for modern retail. Retailers are facing increasing pressure from the growth of self-service and cashier-less formats, and higher expectations for speed, accuracy, and operational efficiency. In this context, RFID technology—providing automatic identification and tracking of tagged products throughout their lifecycle—has become a key enabler.

By improving inventory accuracy, strengthening loss prevention, and accelerating checkout processes, RFID helps retailers optimize both store operations and the overall customer experience, it claims. Readfinity is built around a clear objective: consolidating multiple hardware components into a single, compact RFID platform with ultra-fast reading performance.

The solution can be deployed wherever the customer needs it. It has not only been designed to be deployed across traditional checkout lanes and self-checkout (SCO), but has been created to deliver consistent accuracy and performance in a wide range of retail environments, says Checkpoint.

Unlike conventional readers, Readfinity features an embedded computing architecture that allows it to operate autonomously, without constant dependence on centralized systems or cloud connectivity. This enables real-time transaction validation, automatic reconciliation between scanned items and actual purchases, and immediate detection of unpaid items at exit points.

By simplifying system architecture and reducing integration requirements, the platform helps retailers accelerate deployments while minimizing back-office integration efforts.

The device includes expandable GPIO connectivity, allowing easy integration with external devices such as sensors, indicators, and automation components. This flexibility supports a broad range of in-store configurations and operational scenarios, it explains.

Designed with the future in mind, the platform is engineered to support upcoming Edge AI capabilities, enabling data processing and decision-making directly at the reader level. By analysing RFID and sensor data locally, retailers can reduce latency, limit reliance on cloud infrastructure and unlock advanced use cases such as dynamic inventory optimization, trend-based replenishment, customer behaviour analysis, and more personalized in-store experiences.

At scale, data aggregation across multiple stores turns connected hardware into actionable intelligence, supporting operational performance, inventory forecasting, and marketing activation.

While optimized for POS applications, Readfinity is designed for a broader set of use cases, including self-service kiosks, interactive retail devices, smart shelves, EAS systems, and any environment requiring fast, secure, and reliable RFID data capture.

“With Readfinity, we’re not just launching a new RFID reader—we are introducing an intelligent and versatile platform designed to support the next phase of retail transformation,” said Sergio Ramos, global product management director at Checkpoint Systems. “This solution reflects our commitment to innovation that addresses real market challenges. By combining performance, flexibility, and scalability, we help retailers address today’s operational challenges while building a future-ready foundation for connected stores.”

“By consolidating multiple functions into a single device, it reduces hardware footprint, simplifies maintenance, and lowers total cost of ownership. It delivers immediate operational value while providing retailers with a scalable platform to adapt to the evolving demands of an increasingly connected retail landscape,” he added.
