Hatsun produces a large variety of dairy products including milk, curd and ice-creams

Windmöller & Hölscher India has commissioned two reliable and energy-efficient machines for Hatsun Agro Product’s new greenfield project near Chennai. The orders for the Varex II 3-layer blown film and the Miraflex CI flexo press were booked in the second quarter of 2016 and Hatsun Agro proposes to commence commercial production at the greenfield plant at Wallajabad near Chennai in October 2017. The overall project cost of the new packaging plant is estimated at around Rs. 65 crore (approximately EUR 8.5 million).
Hatsun Agro Product Limited is a Chennai-based leading private dairy company with a diverse range of dairy and ice cream products under several brands such as Hatsun, Arokya, Arun and IBACO. To meet its growing requirements for milk and curd (dahi or yogurt) packaging, Hatsun is establishing an automated greenfield packaging production project at Wallajabad near Chennai.

Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H), the Germany-based world leading manufacturer of flexible packaging blown film lines and gravure and flexo press for flexible packaging as well as other packaging equipment, bagged the order to commission the machines for the greenfield project on a turnkey basis through its Indian subsidiary, W&H India.

W&H India was established in 1995 and is headquartered in New Delhi. With its extensive engineering capability, the wholly owned subsidiary services several countries in the region including Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and India.

Both the blown film lines, a Varex II – 2600 mm 3-layer blown film and the Miraflex AM8, 1270 mm-wide CI flexo press rated to run at 400 meters per minute, and their components are manufactured at W&H’s Lengerich plant in Germany. In addition, Hatsun Agro has ordered the Miraflex CI press with the Easy Col system, a state-of-the-art technology for closed loop color matching. The system will allow Hatsun’s pressroom team to fully automate the color matching process of the decorative elements printed on its flexible packaging—an otherwise tedious and sub-optimal process when performed manually.

The customized machines for the new HAP project include all the system components for delivering perfect film quality to the desired specifications and for achieving optimal productivity. The goal of the new plant is to have maximum flexibility in film and flexible packaging production with ease of use and ergonomics—together with meeting the sustainability objectives of Hatsun Agro.

Prakash W Gupta, managing director of W&H India says, “We are proud to be part of this important project for Hatsun Agro Product Limited. The commissioning of these machines for HAP’s greenfield plant in India is a remarkable milestone for us and one which is also helping us to consolidate our leadership position in this sector.”

Hatsun Agro Product Limited is a leading private sector dairy player in India which procures milk from select fine quality cattle, which is collected directly from over 4,00,000 farmers who are chosen with great care. HAP’s portfolio of milk products include Arun Icecreams and the country’s largest private sector milk brand, Arokya. Hatsun’s dairy products portfolio also contains Ibaco, a premium chain of ice cream outlets where consumers can customize their own ice cream sundaes, and Santosa, a fast growing cattle feed brand. Hatsun Agro Product exports to 38 countries around the world.
