Earlier this year, Meghna in Bangladesh installed a W&H Heliostar II gravure press rated at a speed of 400 meters a minute. Meghna has been using locally produced gravure cylinders and locally manufactured inks on the press while achieving the rated speeds on the new press. The Heliostar II has the fully integrated W&H Procontrol/Vision system for ease of operation and single-point real time information.

The automation features on the press include driven inking rollers, while the Vision system provides intelligent and fully integrated web inspection with a 100% defect detection. The Heliostar II at Meghna uses the Easy-Sync-Heliocontrol for better register setting and control. The press also features high strength dryers.

“We admire the machine performance for its top-notch quality with unparalleled speed of 400 meters a minute and the uptime performance of the press,” stated Md Harun Or Rashid, the senior general manager at the Meghna Group. “With the Heliostar installation [at Meghna], we have set the precedent for high capacity presses of 400 meters a minute and above with fast job changeovers. Our rotogravure presses are capable of handling highly critical applications – with highly precise register accuracy for demanding substrates and low contrast ink and varnishes,” said Anuj Sahni, general manager Sales and Marketing of W&H India, which looks after the Bangladesh market.

The Meghna group is one of Bangladesh’s largest leading conglomerates with interests in information technology, media, pulp and paper, stationary, aviation, FMCG products, packaging, real estate, ship building, healthcare, hospitality, chemicals and energy amongst several others. The group has an annual turnover of approximately US$ 2.5 billion and 36,000 employees.
