Sanjiv Mehta, CEO and managing director of Hindustan Unilever delivering the keynote at the 6th ElitePlus Conference in Mumbai

Organized by ElitePlus, the 10th Speciality Films and Flexible Packaging Global Summit 2023 is going to take place at the recently opened Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The two-day conference which is generally the highlight of the year for the fast-growing Indian flexible packaging industry also attracts a good number of the top leadership of global and Indian brand owners, converters, and suppliers to the industry.

This year’s global summit is set to bring together industry experts for two days of information sharing and networking from companies such as Britannia, DS Group, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Unibic, Nestle, Piramal Pharma, and Amul. The conference will host panel discussions on industry current challenges, over 45 presentations by global industry leaders, and Q&A sessions with thought leaders and subject matter experts. Over 70 partners will be exhibiting their products and services in front of over 2000 global attendees.

The past several Elite conferences have gradually taken up the sustainability of flexible packaging with increasing seriousness. The polymer suppliers have spoken more and more about recyclates while the Indian converters have talked about the need for better waste collection, sorting, and recycling facilities. In the meantime, the Plastic Waste Management Rules as per Schedule II of February and June 2022 have established the Extended Producer Responsibility guidelines for recyclability with a time-bound schedule of compliance and financial penalties in the case of falling short of compliance.

The Elite Conference generally provides a good insight into which brand owners are most concerned about the sustainability challenge and an update on the vision of the suppliers and flexible packaging converters. Government officials and regulators also provide an update on the latest regulations and compliances.

The technical presentations by the suppliers of equipment, technology, film, polymer, resin, coating, adhesive, and ink suppliers point toward innovations and solutions, while the converters respond with their challenges to the cost of the investments in light of the general unpreparedness of the brand owners to pay more for recyclable and sustainable packaging solutions. Increasingly over the years, there has been a good representation of the recycling community at the event.

Register here to be a part of the 10th Speciality Films and Flexible Packaging Global Summit- 2023.
