German industrial weighing and inspection specialist Minebea Intec is strengthening its presence in India with the launch of new products developed and manufactured locally. At Anuga FoodTec India in Mumbai, the company showcased its new Minexx range of industrial scales and electronics alongside its first checkweigher and X-ray inspection system made in India.
Speaking to Packaging South Asia at the show, Willy-Sebastian Metzger, director global marketing and communications and business development, said India has become a strategic market for the company. “We have built a strong production base in Bangalore over the past decades, where we manufacture across all three of our business areas—industrial scales, process weighing electronics, and inspection systems such as metal detectors, x-ray machines and checkweighers,” he explained.
Minebea Intec counts the food industry as its largest market in India, serving dairy, bakery, and confectionery producers, alongside growing business in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, steel and cement. He said the company is among the top three to four players in India across its product lines.
The new Minexx portfolio marks a global launch, replacing the company’s existing models with flexible configurations for bench and floor scales, integrated with advanced indicators and controllers for weighing, counting, batching and dosing applications.
Two other highlights included a checkweigher designed and manufactured specifically for India and Asia, featuring a Red Dot award-winning interface, and an X-ray inspection system produced for the first time in India. Metzger described the x-ray machine as a “game changer,” offering advanced foreign body detection at competitive costs tailored to local requirements.
Despite disruptions because of heavy rain on the opening day, Metzger said the exhibition remains Minebea Intec’s most important event in India, providing a platform to present innovations and engage with customers.
