Located near Mumbai’s Bhiwandi, Papierus Packaging specializes in printing and converting monocartons. Established in 2010, the company installed a Komori GL-740A 7-color plus coater and UV IR configuration in July 2026 to expand capacity.
According to Rikin Vakharia of Papierus Packaging, the Komori has a clean look with a program-based system and scanner to track dot variation within sheets, which helps rectify errors quickly. “Komori provides the most technologically advanced machines at unmatched prices,” he told Packaging South Asia in a telephonic conversation.
Vakharia said he first spotted the Komori GL-740A at drupa 24 and was impressed with its quality and machine specifications.
Papierus Packaging also operates three sheetfed Heidelberg presses – a 7-color, a 6-color and a 2-color. For converting, it has two die-cutters and three folder gluers from Bobst, with the last Ambition 76 A1, being commissioned in August 2021. A CtP output device as well as die-punching, sheet-pasting, cutting and hot foil stamping machines operate in the prepress and postpress sections, respectively.
The company supplies monocartons to customers in the sporting goods, pharmaceuticals, industrial products, and segments with smaller quantities in other segments.
Packaging South Asia had reported in April 2022 that Papierus Packaging had moved out of its initial 6,000 square feet facility in Vasai to an over 27,000 square feet unit in Bhiwandi in September 2020 due to recurring space constraints and some other issues.
The company now operates from a new, self-owned 60,000 square feet plant in Bhiwandi. Though the production area is already operational, the office and the rest of the building will take another 6-8 months to be ready.
According to Vakharia, though Papierus is only a decade and a half old, the company is strong in the printing and packaging industry as his grandfather was a trading agent for numerous paper mills in India. JK Paper’s trading business for paperboard is still managed by the family.
“Packaging is an everlasting industry. Everyone requires packaging, from pharmaceuticals to industrial products. As the industry grows at a steady pace, brand new packaging presses are coming in and the players are increasing. Our plan is to keep growing in the industry and opt for certain certifications we wanted to go for,” he said.
According to Vakharia, there’s a lot of growth in the packaging industry even though customer demand has changed drastically in the five years following the Covid-19 pandemic – for example, the shift from greyboard and whiteboard to JK Ultima paperboard.
“Originally, converters would use waste paper such as greyboard and whiteboard but with the new laws coming in, they have moved to using good quality paperboard as demand for high-quality cartons has gone up drastically.”
Packaging printers, he said, have played a significant role in educating clients about new technologies, on how the quality of monocartons can be improved and other such nitty-gritties.
