Swapnali Labels, a manufacturer of stickers and labels based in the northern Mumbai suburb of Vasai, recently expanded into the digital label printing market by establishing a separate division called Megohm Digipack. This new division was created in February 2023 and will operate using the Jetsci Colornovo SAPFC digital UV inkjet label production press, which is a flagship product of Jetsci Global.
Swapnali Yadav, the second-generation manager of the family business, is overseeing Megohm Digipack. Her father, Gopal Yadav, founded Swapnali Labels nearly a decade ago. Currently, Swapnali Labels operates two conventional narrow web flexo printing lines.
According to Swapnali Yadav, the decision to establish a separate digital printing unit under Megohm Digipack was part of their long-term plans. The acquisition of the Jetsci Colornovo press allows them to focus specifically on digital label printing and provides clarity in their operations.
“We had been planning to have a separate digital label printing vertical for some time. We have finally taken the plunge with a brand new Jetsci Colornovo SAPFC digital UV inkjet label production press. A separate digital printing unit under Megohm Digipack will provide us clarity and let us focus on the way we do digital label printing,” says Yadav.
Yadav holds a master’s degree in business management from Australia. Though she briefly interned at Swapnali Labels in 2019 after finishing her under graduation, her goal was always to join her family business.
“Even before I went to Australia to do my master’s degree, it was clear I would return to India to join my family business. There was no question of settling overseas. The Indian labels and packaging industry is booming and exciting and I wanted to be a part of it,” she says.
Jetsci Colornovo ticks all the right boxes
Before finalizing the Jetsci Colornovo press, Swapnali Yadav conducted extensive research. After months of study, they selected the Jetsci press because it met their requirements effectively. The Jetsci Colornovo SAPFC digital UV inkjet label production press impressed the company with its configuration, offering stand-alone printing, finishing, and converting capabilities.
After Covid, the company observed that brands increasingly went for multiple SKUs, customization, and shorter runs. Additionally, startups often require labels in smaller quantities.
“We were impressed with the Jetsci Colornovo SAPFC digital UV inkjet label production press. The Colornovo configuration of stand-alone printing, finishing, and converting online press works for us. Post Covid, we have witnessed that brands are increasingly opting for multiple SKUs and shorter runs. The number of startups has increased significantly in the last three to four years. These startups require labels in short quantities, which is difficult to process via conventional presses. In such a scenario, a digital press comes in handy,” Swapnali Yadav said.
Swapnali said the press can handle a wide range of substrates, opening up new opportunities for their business.
The Jetsci Colornovo SAPFC digital UV inkjet label production press was launched by Monotech during Labelexpo India 2018. It utilizes piezoDoD inkjet printhead technology and offers a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi, with the ability to print on surfaces up to 330 mm in width.
“Meghom Digipak was looking for a digital label press. After exploring their options, they decided to shift their preference and selected the Jetsci Global online printing, finishing, and converting machine as their digital label press. This machine is the flagship product of the Colonovo portfolio,” said Dinesh Thakur, DGM – Sales, Jetsci Global.
Thakur said the Jetsci Global Colornova SAPFC stands out in the market because it offers the unique capability of printing, finishing, and converting in a single pass.
“This feature sets it apart from other machines available. With Jetsci Global, Meghom Digipak can benefit from an inkjet system with an extended color gamut. Additionally, they have access to various finishing options such as lamination, cold foil, special color printing, and post-coat application. The machine also offers the convenience of rotary die cutting, all accomplished in a single pass,” Thakur added.
