Meghdoot, a leading corrugated shipping carton manufacturer, plans to enhance production efficiency and grow its business by integrating state-of-the-art HP and Esko technology. Manufacturing corrugated shipping boxes in India since 1998, Meghdoot has emerged as a frontrunner with a monthly production capability of 5,000 metric tonnes of corrugated cartons. It has now made a large-scale investment in the production of corrugated free standing display units (FSDU) and point of purchase displays (POP). Meghdoot is the
first Indian company to install the HP Scitex FB10000 inkjet press and a complete Esko POP display design and manufacturing solution. It is also the first North Indian company to deploy the HP Latex 3000 printer at its New Delhi plant.
Executive director and CEO of Meghdoot, Rohit Kapoor says, “As we all know, our industry in India is growing very fast and the customer’s demands are very high. We understood that brand owners demand quality results in the design, print and finishing of displays so that they can visually market their products in the rapidly growing organized retail segment.”

“Brand managers and marketers in India have to constantly stay ahead of the market dynamics in the in-store signage and POP displays. They are demanding advanced POP solutions which can best meet their needs of color accuracy, consistency and high quality while being affordable at the same time,” says Kapoor. “Responding to these customer needs and evaluating the vast market opportunity with corrugated POP displays, we
decided to install the HP Scitex Flatbed 10000 industrial press at our new plant in New Delhi.”
“The HP Scitex Flatbed 10000 industrial press offers flexibility both in terms of size and speed as well as supporting the wide variety of applications and range of media. The POP display applications, while being superior in quality, are highly affordable and apt to meet the brand’s creative needs,” Kapoor added. With the recent installation of the HP Scitex FB10000 industrial press, Meghdoot will address the need for digital production of POP graphics and corrugated display in the market which is currently challenged by analog production methods. With the flexibility to experiment with varied shapes and sizes, it will be easier for Meghdoot to take on more jobs, expand opportunities and increase the potential for profit.
Esko for design, visualization, collaboration and digital converting
Kapoor explains, “We carefully planned the integration of high quality decorated corrugated materials to brand owner requirements for FSDU and POP/POS displays. We invested in the right digital printer, software, materials and digital finishing. To integrate the end-to-end solution delivery, we chose Esko as the right solution provider. We invested in the complete range of Esko’s design solutions – ArtiosCAD structural design software and Studio software suite for asset creation and visualization. Our installation of Esko’s Studio Store Visualizer is the first in India that is completely integrated with the CAD system and the Kongsberg XP24 digital finishing table. The Kongsberg XP24 with an in-built camera produces precise multi-component displays, mock-ups and personalized promotional material with quick turnaround times.”

Meghdoot’s design capabilities are enhanced by the first installation in India of Studio Store Visualizer and Esko’s Webcentre online approval system. The design and prepress workflow is seamlessly integrated with the Kongsberg XP24 digital finishing table integrated with a sheet feeder, conveyor and a delivery table that make it an automated converting line. The automated in-line cutting and creasing configuration enables 24 x 7 both one-off and short-run productivity. With the XP24’s cutting speed and the speed of tool changes, fast job preparation, running speed and low idle time Meghdoot can establish a completely new standard of POP quality and efficiency. The robustness of the machine provides accurate handling of the even the most challenging materials as well as continuous operation.
Shrihari Rao, sales director of Esko India says, “It’s an honour for Esko to be associated with a company which is the first to go digital in the Indian corrugation market. We were amazed at the speed at which Rohit Kapoor went about implementing this project. His ‘offerings beyond imagination’ vision combined with its core strength of packaging solutions is Meghdoot’s USP in the decorated corrugated FSDU, POP and packaging industry.”
Rao notes, “The high level of automation and precision in Kongsberg finishing table perfectly complements the state-of-the-art HP FB 10000 Digital Print Engine. We are sure the facility at Meghdoot will change the way products are marketed in the retail industry environment in India. Kudos to the Meghdoot team which is set to be a game changer in the Indian corrugated industry.”
