Luigi Bandera has a reputation as a worldwide leader in designing and manufacturing complete extrusion lines for packaging and converting. Established as a mechanical workshop during the 1940s, it is now a worldwide film extrusion company in the extrusion industry with over 75 years of experience. The Italian company headquartered just northwest of Milan has three divisions – blown film lines, divided into agricultural, geomembrane, and packaging films; another for the flat dies for PET, PSC, PE film, and rigid films; and lastly, for the extrusion of recycled polyolefins and other materials. The firm promoted all of these at the recent PlastIndia exhibition in New Delhi.

Flavio Sesia, of Bandera’s sales department, spoke about the recycled materials extrusion division first, saying, “It uses the same technology of the flat die – that is the co-rotating twin screw technology that will give a lot of advantages for the recovery of different materials.”

“Our USP is, of course, a long experience of 75 years. The company is very large, we have been leading the market for agri-film for the last 40 years. We have hundreds of installations of this type and the company is very diversified. We are approaching recycling because we believe that this will be the present and the future of the plastic market – one that is so difficult to handle nowadays,” he continued.

Plans for a direct sales office in India

In India, Bandera has installations of blown film lines as well as PPE flat die lines. Although it currently works through an agent, the plan is to tap into the growing Indian market and expand its presence through a direct office in the country. Bandera recently had a double installation in a company named Megaplast for agricultural geomembranes. It has another 7-layer film line coming to northeast India in the next few months.

The packaging industry is rapidly growing and more and more people are willing to invest in this industry, Sesia said. “We are pretty sure that in the next ten years, India will be booming. People will get better knowledge and there will be even more producers who are interested to invest in European and Western machines with better standards and quality.

“We are very satisfied with the exhibition, and we have had many professional and interested visitors. The market is growing and people are willing to invest good money in sustainability investments. We hope that this will bring us to a very nice future in the next years or the next months,” he signed off.
