As global ecological challenges intensify, sustainability has become the defining movement of our time. The packaging industry, a sector central to daily life with a significant environmental footprint, is at a critical crossroads of green transformation. Driven by rising consumer eco-consciousness, tightening government regulations, and rigorous international carbon mandates, the packaging industry is accelerating its shift toward a green, low-carbon, and circular economy.
Against this backdrop, Interpack China 2026 will return to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from 16–18 November 2026. Highlighting its commitment to sustainable growth, the exhibition will once again partner with the World Packaging Organization (WPO) to host a high-level International Green Packaging Development Summit, providing a premier global platform for industry leaders to shape a sustainable future.
Global green packaging exchange
Coinciding with the WPO Board Meeting in late 2026, the International Green Packaging Development Summit—organized by the China National Export Commodities Packaging Research Institute (CEPI)—will take place during the exhibition. The forum is designed to align with global decarbonization trends, implementing China’s national “Dual Carbon” strategy and industrial policy directives for green packaging.
It aims to establish a high-end platform for global synergy across policy, standards, technology, and industrial innovation. By pooling international expertise and sharing global best practices, advanced standards, and cutting-edge technologies, the summit will provide a valuable reference framework and practical pathways for the industry’s green transition, supporting the realization of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
The summit is expected to draw approximately 300 delegates, including representatives from the WPO, the China Packaging Federation, and the National Technical Committee on Packaging Standardization, alongside key industry stakeholders. International experts will account for roughly 10% of the attendees, joined by officials from regulatory bodies, research institutes, and academia.
Discussions will cover a broad spectrum of sustainability verticals, including: global sustainability frameworks and green packaging assessment; brand-owner requirements for eco-friendly materials; sustainable packaging solutions for the catering and takeaway sectors; and the evolution of smart packaging and the packaging supply chain.
Global industry giants such as Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Yili, and Fenjiu have been invited to share their green procurement strategies, technological trends, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These sessions will offer attendees first-hand industry insights and actionable experience from the forefront of the green packaging movement.
