Pune-based label converter Samyak has invested in a 450-mm die-cutting and converting machine from Vinsak as it expands its in-mold labelling (IML) business and strengthens its capabilities in high-end label production. The deal was announced at Loupe India 2026 in Greater Noida.
The investment reflects Samyak’s efforts to develop the technical expertise and production consistency required to serve the demanding IML market, where the quality and the precision of converting are critical to the final product.
Samyak’s business operations manager Samyak Kothari said the company had made IML a strategic focus after he joined the family business about 18 months ago.
“The best thing about Vinsak was that we had a lot of questions and challenges, and they had answers to them. They were very cooperative and helped us find solutions,” Kothari said.
Samyak director Rajendra Kothari said the investment built on the company’s longstanding relationship with Vinsak. Samyak had purchased a Lombardi press in 2021, and the support it received from Vinsak’s team had reinforced its confidence in the supplier.
He praised the service team, saying it continued to assist Samyak with its Lombardi equipment even though the machine was no longer directly under Vinsak’s responsibility. According to him, the team responds to calls even at night and can often provide support within an hour.
From variable data to high-end labels
Samyak began with manufacturing plain labels, barcode labels and variable data labels. The business had previously been involved in trading and dealing in hardware.
A visit to Labelexpo in 2012 exposed the company to the wider possibilities of the label industry. Samyak subsequently acquired a second-hand narrow-web press, marking an important step in its development as a label converter.
The 2021 investment in a Lombardi press supported its move towards product labels and higher-value converting. While the company continues to produce variable data labels, it has increasingly focused on more technically demanding applications, including IML.
For Samyak, the shift into IML represents both a growth opportunity and a technical challenge. Kothari said the market offered scope for converters capable of consistently meeting customers’ quality requirements. The label is an integral component of an IML-packaged product, making precision and reliability particularly important.
Further investments to expand capacity
The Vinsak die-cutting machine forms part of a broader investment programme at Samyak. The company is also adding a Gallus press for label production and an AVT inspection system.
The investments are intended to strengthen different parts of the production process, from printing and converting to inspection and quality control, as the company expands its capabilities.
