One of the largest Indian ice cream cone manufacturing groups Gujarat-based Topnotch Foods and Topnotch Packaging, recently showcased its rolled sugar cones with aluminum foil sleeves in various sizes, along with its in-mold labeled (IML) boxes. Designed for sustainable and visually appealing packaging solutions these were shown at the Aahar 2025 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Topnotch Foods is an established player in the ice cream cone industry, with manufacturing units in six locations across the country — Nagpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Haryana, Gujarat, and Karnataka. Recognizing the growing demand for food-grade, sustainable packaging, the company recently diversified into IML box manufacturing, at its Gujarat facility.

Highlighting the company’s strategic shift its founder Keyur Doshi, explained, “After establishing ourselves in the rolled sugar cone market, we were looking to diversify. Given the rising awareness and demand for sustainability, moving into IML packaging was a natural progression for us,” he explained.

He noted that IML (in-mold labeling) technology is gaining traction across various industries, especially for ice cream, sweets, namkeen, confectionery, and even paint. Unlike traditional packaging, where labels are applied separately, IML integrates the label directly into the container during the molding process, making it more durable, visually appealing, and eco-friendly.

Adding that major brands are rapidly shifting to IML packaging, he said, “Brands are choosing IML not just for its health and hygiene benefits but also for its visual appeal. Whether it’s a 100 ml round cup or a 1-liter ice cream container, we provide a wide range of sizes to meet industry needs,” he said.

“IML eliminates the need for secondary labeling, reduces waste, and enhances recyclability and reusability,” Doshi added. The use of recyclable materials such as polypropylene further enhances the sustainability factor, minimizing plastic packaging waste.

With in-house printing, in-house paper aluminum foil lamination and also rolling of the paper sleeves, the company has major brands in India such as Kwality Walls, Amul, Mother Dairy, Dinshaws Dairy, Hangyo, Vadilal, and many more amongst its customers.
