In a daytime function on 24 February 2017, Parksons Packaging inaugurated its fifth monocarton plant in the Sri City industrial township located about 90 kilometres north of Chennai. Board and team members, family and friends bore witness to the auspicious launch of another purpose-designed and comprehensively fitted factory. With an initial capacity of printing and converting 500 tonnes of board to monocartons each month, the capacity is expected to double by the end of the calendar year with the installation of a second Heidelberg CX 102 press.

Valco Melton displayed a range of cold glue systems for folding carton application, corrugated application, web press applications and GMS microgluer for paper folder applications at PrintPack 2017. With its recent acquisition of ERO, S.r.l. based out Italy, and to expand its range of products in the paper converting industry, Valco Melton showcased the complete range of ERO products at its stand. In addition to this, ERO had a separate stand at the exhibition since the company’s decision to participate in PrintPack was taken before ERO was acquired by Valco Melton.

The Artize Die Makers stand at PrintPack 2017 was buzzing with activity all through the 5 days of the event as Mukul Luthra was busy attending to customer queries at their stand. “We have introduced our pre-rubberized dies and male-female stripping tools at this event; these are utilized on automatic diecutting machines like Bobst, Maxima, etc. Our pre-rubberized dies help increase the efficiency of an automatic diecutter. We have also introduced a substitute for Matrix—the Pertinex Counter Plate—which brings down the makeready time on the press from 2 hours to 15 minutes. This means in case of a couple of changeovers in a day, one can save almost half a shift and thereby increase machine efficiency by half a shift,” said Luthra.

Soft-spoken and knowledgeable, Manish Munot first visited the K exhibition in Dusseldorf in 2003 where he saw an array of high-tech presses including the Bobst F&K CI flexo press, which seemed at the time the stuff of dreams for a relatively new packaging company. At the recent K event in Dusseldorf in October 2016, Vardhaman Polyfims was able to take an important step in realizing its ambitious plans as Manish signed up for a Bobst F&K 20SIX 8-color CI flexo press. The 400 m/min  press will arrive in Ahmednagar in March for installation and commissioning by May 2017.

At this year’s PrintPack show, Bobst India will be showing its high-speed folder gluer Visionfold 110 A2 with auto collection and will be running multiple jobs. The company will also introduce a special feature on the Visionfold, which they will share during the PrintPack.

We are hoping that our way of looking at the April to March fi nancial year to benchmark the Indian packaging industry’s growth will continue to show its upward path. Although the packaging industry has been growing in the past four years, there is no denying that it has been looking for the signifi cant upturn that should come from being one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Even last year, leading converters who are making large and structured investments suggested waiting it out Q3 and Q4 of 2016–17!
