Europe finally is facing up to the same stark environmental and economic realities of producing goods in increasingly massive volumes that Japanese industry accepted more than two decades ago and has shaped Japan’s resource-aware approach to packaging production and design. Trailing behind but with Japan’s experiences to learn from, Europe now has an action plan and measures to nudge the Union’s 28 countries – or at least 27 of them – towards a manufacturing model based on a circular, rather than linear, model.

At the K 2016 show Erema will be building on the success of its Intarema technology presented in 2013, this time with its trade fair theme of  ‘Careformance – We care about your performance’ to grow its pioneering role this year with Industry 4.0 applications. “Building on the high degree of automation of the Intarema systems we have developed a Smart Factory package which enables us to give our customers a clear competitive edge and make them fit for the future,” says Erema CEO Manfred Hackl. The company will be recycling the plastic waste of the K show on site at the Careformance Recycling Centre in the outdoor area of the trade fair, with machine, quality and process data being transferred in real time to Erema’s Stand C05 in Hall 9.

The Golden Peacock Award, a global benchmark of corporate excellence, underlines Tetra Pak’s responsible waste management and recycling practices.

Kotkamills is launching its new range of consumer board products – the folding boxboard range will be covered by the AEGLE brand and the food service range by the ISLA brand. The standard board ranges will be launched in July 2016 when Kotkamills’ new board machine starts. The option of water-based dispersion coated barriers will be added in the autumn. The new machine will for the first time allow barrier coatings to be applied directly on the carton board machine as part of normal production.

Noida-based Nutech Packagings has become India’s first company to sign a deal with Monotech Systems for the Scodix E106, which was launched at drupa 2016. The new digital press, which will be shipped in Q2 2017, will be installed at Nutech Packagings’ 1,200,000 square-foot green plant in Greater Noida. However, Nutech will be allowed to use a Scodix Ultra at its plant till the E106 arrives. Nutech has asked for some customization of the Scodix E106 to fit its needs.
