Continental Caps & Closures sets higher goals
Continental Crowns & Closures is one of the few businesses in the metal caps and closures segment that has been growing steadily ever since it was founded by GM Chandnani, a mechanical engineer, who quit a cosy job in an MNC to start his own SME for producing metal caps. Continental Crowns & Closures has been in operation for over 38 years now and through much of this period stood against tough competition from the growing popularity of PET. Packaging South Asia caught up with GM Chandnani and his son Sundeep Chandnani at their Okhla factory for some interesting insights about the metal caps and closures market.
Success in effective recycling
According to a new 2015 study on the usage and recycling rates of PET beverage bottles in Germany, bottle deposits have ensured consistently high recycling rates for PET bottles in Germany. PET bottles are recycled at about 93.5%, while one-way deposit PET bottles have reached a whole 97.9%. The industry is also continuing on its aim of supplying more recycled PET into the materials cycle, with the average share of recycled PET in bottle production increasing compared to 2013 despite the adverse price development in recycled compared to virgin PET. The recycling process largely takes place in Germany.
“Looking to get a foothold in the US market”
Surat-based Alpha Plastomers, manufacturer of flexible packaging solutions like shrink films and specialty films, marked it presence for the first time at Pack Expo International 2016. Alpha has two manufacturing plants located at Daman and Roorkee. At Pack Expo, it displayed a variety of solutions that it can provide to the US flexible packaging industry.
