Koehler Group acquires entire shareholding in Marienthaler

Marienthaler’s premises in Eifel mountains affected by serious flooding

The Koehler Group has acquired 100% of the shares in Marienthaler Werbe-Offset druck. Koehler has been a majority shareholder in the company since 2019. Marienthaler, which is based in Schleiden in the Eifel mountains, specializes in the production and distribution of coasters. A press released datelined Oberkirch, on 30 July 2021 said that the Uhlmann family, which owned the company, has thus relinquished all its interests in the company.

Marienthaler in Schleiden seriously affected by flood disaster

Kai Furler, CEO of the Koehler Group, said, “In order to bring together the company’s expertise in the production of coasters, we have reached an agreement with the Uhlmann family to take over all of the shares in Marienthaler.” The Marienthaler site in Schleiden has been seriously affected in recent days by the severe flooding that has taken place in the region. The company’s production plant in Schleiden-Gemünd, in the Eifel, was heavily damaged by the natural disaster. “Regardless of the takeover, we have been forced to conclude that resumption of production at the site is unimaginable in the coming months due to the flood damage,” continued Furler. As a result, it will not be possible to service existing customer orders in the usual way.

Over the coming days and weeks, with the support of the Koehler Group, activity at Marienthaler will be dominated by cleaning-up operations and comprehensive assessment of the damage, which, at present, is still impossible to evaluate. In the meantime, customer orders from Marienthaler in Schleiden will be fulfilled by KATZ in Weisenbach. KATZ, which is similarly owned by the Koehler Group, produces woodpulp-based products, including coasters.

With the complete takeover by the Koehler Group, Andreas Uhlmann has relinquished his position as managing director. He will continue to advise and support the company, and will remain available for consultation.

The Koehler Group was founded in 1807 and has been family-run from that moment to the present day. The group’s core business activity lies in the development and production of high-quality specialty paper. The group has international operations, with exports of over 70% in 2020 and annual revenue of 770 million euros.
