Greater Noida-based Surya Global Flexfilms has signed up for an Expert K5 metalizer from Bobst. The fourth Bobst metallizer for SGF’s biaxial film plant is to be installed at the end of 2026. It is a 3650 mm width machine and contains the AlOx Gen II technology. In response to the sustainability trend in the industry, the AlOx Gen II process was developed for the production of high barrier, transparent BOPP films. In addition to the high levels of oxygen and water barrier at a low optical density that this solution provides, the film produced using the new process is transparent straight off the machine.

Although it is a new company, SGF is already one of the country’s largest biaxial film and BOPP film producers. The fourth metallizer will complement the company’s three existing machines at 2900 mm width.

Surya Global Flexfilms is the flexible packaging arm of the Priyagold Group, a leading food and FMCG company. At its 40-acre site, in the past year, it commissioned its third biaxial film line, a hybrid BOPE line. The company is planning to install six biaxial film lines with a total capacity of 22,000 tons monthly by 2028. When commissioned, it will also become one of the biggest BOPP film producers in the country.

On the purchase of the fourth Bobst metalizer, SGF’s managing director Shekhar Agarwal said, “We purchased our first three machines from Bobst when we decided to to start producing metallized film in-house due to their reputation in the market. After the successful running of these machines for the last three years, we needed to increase our capacity and produce our own AlOx coated films; there was no question we would return to Bobst for this fourth machine.”
