An established name in the packaging arena, Tirupur-based Shankar & Co works for a host of customers in the textile & garment sector. The company has powered up its printing and production capability to customer need with the installation of a brand new Komori Lithrone G40 Advance.
A family-owned company, Shankar & Co was founded in 1983. “I am the second generation in the business and taken charge of operations. I am endeavoring to take Shankar & Co to the next level or next phase of expansion with a strong focus on technology-driven growth,” says Shankar Elangovan, proprietor of Shankar & Co.
Recalling the early days, Elangovan says, “Like many in the industry, our business started barely with a Treadle press, followed by a single-color offset press, and eventually multi-color presses one after another arrived in our facility as we grew from one level to another time and again.” He adds, “In our growth story, Komori cannot be missed, which play a vital role in bringing success to business.”
“We have set up a new production facility of 57,000 square feet. With such an upgraded setup, bringing home a brand new Komori offset press was natural and it turned out to be the Komori Lithrone G40 Advance,” he said, adding they have been running an older Lithrone for nearly a decade, which consistently delivered precision and reliability, and it’s now accompanied by the brand new Lithrone G40 Advance.
“When we were looking for a new offset press, our focus was on the latest technology with precision,” Elangovan says. He adds, “We found it in the Lithrone GL40 Advance that ideally offers advanced automation and stability aligning with our production goals.” This brand new Komori press is equipped with PDC-SX that enables faster makeready time, accurate color control, and reduced setup time. The press features non-stop feeder and delivery allowing continuous production and significant improvement in uptime and overall efficiency.
“Engineers from the team visited our plant multiple times to ensure readiness. From unloading to live production of the press, the entire process took just 10 days.”
The Lithrone GL40 Advance operates at the minimum speed of 15,000sph (sheets per hour). “Now, we are future-ready with this brand new Komori press, which builds up our confidence to scale up production and take on more complex jobs, delivering everything in faster speed,” Elangovan says, adding they are considering adding yet another Komori press for expanding into the food & pharmaceutical packaging sector soon.
