Lanxess leads European Dow Jones best-in-class index

In the latest Dow Jones best-in-class index, specialty chemicals company Lanxess ranks first in Europe in the chemicals category and fifth worldwide. Lanxess achieved particularly strong results in the areas of climate strategy, water, human rights, and product stewardship.

“Our excellent performance in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Index underlines that sustainability is firmly embedded in Lanxess’ corporate strategy—an area where we make no compromises, even in difficult economic times,” says Matthias Zachert, chief executive officer of Lanxess AG. “Our progress in key areas such as climate protection, responsible use of resources, and good corporate governance is recognized internationally—this strengthens our credibility with customers, investors, and partners.”

Now in low-risk category

Lanxess has also further improved its sustainability rating from Sustainalytics. The rating assesses a company’s environmental, social, and governance risks. The lower the score, the better. Sustainalytics recently upgraded the Group’s activities from “Medium Risk” to “Low Risk.” With a score of 19.6 points, Lanxess is now among the top 4 percent in the Specialty Chemicals segment and among the top 6 percent of the global chemical industry.

Other renowned rating organizations have also acknowledged Lanxess’ sustainable business model in recent months. For example, climate protection initiative CDP once again included Lanxess on its “A List” for climate protection and rated the Group’s commitment to water management as “A-”. Furthermore, sustainability platform EcoVadis confirmed Lanxess’ Gold status. With 83 out of a possible 100 points, the Group is also among the top companies in its industry in this regard.

Lanxess aims to become climate-neutral in production and energy use by 2040. By 2050, the company’s entire value chain is set to be climate neutral. The corporate strategy combines environmental responsibility with economic performance and responsible corporate governance.
