Prompt is targeting five-fold growth in its weighing and packaging business as demand for automation increases across India’s food processing and manufacturing industries, Dilip Rajpurohit, vice-president – marketing at Prompt, said in an interview at Anuga FoodTec India 2026.
The Gujarat-based group has a 30-year legacy, with its traditional focus on dairy technology through its Prom Dairy Tech division. Its machinery serves dairy operations across India, covering the value chain from farm-level processes to product dispatch.
Prompt showcased solutions from its weighing and packaging systems division, which focuses on automating manufacturing operations. Its portfolio includes controllers, checkweighers, packaging machines, tracking systems, automatic fillers and vision-based inspection systems.
“We are mainly into granule packaging systems and free-flowing materials. We are also expanding into powder applications,” Rajpurohit said, adding the company was not currently targeting liquid packaging, a specialized segment served by other players.
Its machinery serves applications across dairy, agricultural processing and warehousing, particularly where free-flowing materials need to be weighed, filled, inspected and packed.
Prompt manufactures its equipment at a facility in Gandhinagar in Gujarat. It also exports to African countries and is exploring opportunities in other international markets, including Russia.
Speed and accuracy become priorities
Rajpurohit expects automation to remain a key investment area over the next three to five years. Labor availability, hygiene, production efficiency and consistency are among the factors encouraging manufacturers to reduce manual intervention.
The shift is not restricted to large companies. Smaller food processors are also investing in individual machines, such as checkweighers, as they expand production before gradually moving towards more comprehensive automated lines.
“Earlier, everything was manual. Now manufacturers are increasingly looking at automation to minimize manual intervention as much as possible,” he said.
Improved access to financing and government support for machinery and infrastructure was helping manufacturers expand capacity and explore export markets, he said.
However, Rajpurohit said speed and accuracy would be particularly important in the industry’s next phase of growth. Manufacturers must increase throughput to meet rising demand while maintaining consistent product weights.
Even a small variation of 5-10 grams per packet can result in substantial financial losses across large production volumes. Underfilling can affect compliance and customer confidence, while overfilling increases product giveaway.
Automated weighing and filling systems help maintain tighter tolerances and reduce such losses. Prompt’s checkweighers and inspection systems help identify rejected packs and detect foreign materials, including metal contaminants, before products reach consumers.
Rajpurohit said effective inspection was essential for food manufacturers, as contamination incidents could lead to regulatory action and damage to business reputation.
