The daughter plant of Jain Transfer Products in Noida, S Anand Packaging started getting built in January 2016 in Sector 88 in Noida. It was ready by October 2016 for the installation of its first narrow web flexo press—a well-configured Mark Andy Performance Series P5. The machine contains a turn, a cold foiling unit and two die-cutting stations and chilled drums for printing on thin extensible substrates. In the well-built modern industrial standards building, there is space alongside the new P5 for the installation of a second narrow web flexo press.
Needless to say, the installation of the P5 press was followed by demonetization and more recently the adoption of the GST system. Fortunately, according to Parshav Jain, director and partner at S Anand Packaging, the new plant has strong support from its parent company Jain Transfer Products in Sector 6, which is run mainly by his father Sudhir Jain and his brother Rishab Jain. Jain Transfer is a highly specialized label and tea tag producer. The company has been a long time user of several Mark Andy presses (since 1993) and more recently of a Rotoflex VSi 330 slitter rewinder with 100% fault detection.
The new 4-story building houses a complete plant for pressure-sensitive labels and several specialty products with slitter rewinders, inspection, die-cutting and digital overprinting machines. Parshav Jain, who runs the new plant on a day-to-day basis (while also visiting the Sector 6 plant for half a day several times a week), tells us that the new company continues, to a large extent, to produce highly specialized labels for industrial and medical applications.

Jain, who studied flexography while doing a masters at Clemson University in South Carolina, tells us that the purchase of the Mark Andy short path press with auto-register system puts the new plant on a strong technology footing, “We feel that the P5 is future proof for producing shrink sleeves and in-mold labels.” He says that he has already printed on 25 micron PE liner based substrates and with the chilled impression cylinder on the press he will be able to go to 12 micron films. Jain shows us an example of a high precision wraparound label for Catch printed with the electronic mark reading and registration system in 16 colors using two passes on the new 8-color press.
While capable of middle-sized and long runs, S Anand is more strongly focussed on short runs and specialized industrial and medical labels and applications. While many label printers talk about innovation, the Jain family is able to come up with the special understanding of processes and equipment needed to actually produce these with industrial consistency.
