Aptar Beauty + Home, dispensing and packaging solutions provider for the consumer packaged goods industry, is expanding the use of post-consumer recycled resin (PCR) into their airless line with the launch of two new products — Micro ECO + Mezzo ECO.

Micro ECO + Mezzo ECO incorporates up to 45% PCR (percentage of PCR is dependent on size, range varies from 36.5 to 45.44%) in the combined components and are Cotrep certified for eco-design. Aptar’s entire range of locally-produced airless solutions are 100% plastic and ECO-Cert certified, provide optimal formula protection, and are compatible with many application fields including skin, hair and body care, color cosmetics and hand sanitizer, it says. Customers can convert the current Micro and Mezzo top-fill package in many colors and sizes through Aptar’s extensive PCR supply.

“Our commitment to sustainability is broader than manufacturing products that are better for the environment. Through increasing our use of PCR in our core product lines we are able to help our brand partners achieve their sustainability goals, while doing our part towards a circular economy,” says Philippe Erhart, president, Beauty + Home, North America.

Circular economy

According to Nielsen’s global survey, 81% of respondents feel strongly that companies should help improve the environment. In alignment with the Ellen Mac Arthur Foundation, Aptar is committed to achieving 10% recycled content in all dispensing solutions for the beauty, personal care, and home care market by 2025.

“Aptar is committed to the Science Based Targets initiative. In addition to promoting a more circular economy for our products, the use of more post-consumer recycled resin contributes to our SBTs by reducing emissions associated with raw material consumption,” says Beth Holland, vice president, Operational Excellence, EHS & Sustainability, Aptar.

A full life cycle analysis completed on Micro ECO + Mezzo ECO proved to reduce CO2 emissions of up to 12.3% compared to our standard airless product range (CO2 emission reduction is dependent on product and size, range varies from 6.81 to 12.3%)

The product range is available in 15 to 75 ml, provides 90%+ evacuation of formula and comes in two ready to fill parts.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.

As the economy approaches real growth with unevenness and shortages a given, we are looking forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again appointed to produce the Show Daily on all five days of the show from 26 to 30 May 2022.
