Pallavi Choudhary asks Joerg Kullwitz, Miraclon’s commercial director for the Asia-Pacific Region, about the company’s participation at the upcoming Labelexpo India at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from 10 to 13 November. The event returns after a couple of postponements of the 2020 show scheduled at the same venue.

What is Miraclon showcasing at Labelexpo India 2022?

Visitors to Labelexpo India can see firsthand the wealth of efficiency and automation benefits that the newest technology from Miraclon can bring to their business on our stand, which is H10 in Hall 3.

The Flexcel NX System remains the core product of the Miraclon portfolio. In line with our corporate purpose of making flexo the preferred print process of choice for the broadest possible range of package printing applications, our customers continue to benefit from a steady flow of innovations and enhancements that build on the core Flexcel NX Technology. Each innovation brings economic, technological, and sustainability benefits and — in a further sign of Miraclon’s commitment to the flexo industry — is available to the earliest users of the Flexcel NX system.

Visitors will have a chance to learn more about the Flexcel NX Print Suite and its latest award-winning feature – PureFlexo Printing – that controls unwanted ink spread and allows for greater latitude on the press to meet today’s high-quality expectations of brand clients while maximizing plant output and efficiency.

Labelexpo India visitors should not miss out on seeing how our latest innovations can help them in their flexo operations with more uptime, less waste, and better consistency to help raise their bottom line. They can view Flexcel NX plates in action across the show floor during live demonstrations on many narrow web press manufacturers’ stands.

How helpful is this event for your company from the sales and other aspects?

There is no substitute for in-person events such as Labelexpo India, as it allows the industry to connect and see all the latest technology and innovations on one show floor. And, as we are collaborating with several press manufacturers that will use Flexcel NX Plates to showcase the abilities of their presses during the show, visitors have the opportunity to not only learn about the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability benefits that Flexcel NX technology offers but see it in action too.

How was the last Labelexpo India in 2018 for your company, and what are your expectations from the upcoming show?

Labelexpo India 2018 provided a valuable platform to interact with customers, partners, and prospects and also to showcase the differentiation that Flexcel NX Technology brings to the flexo production process thanks to our advanced surface patterning such as DIGICAP NX patterning and NX Advantage technology.

This year will be no different; it remains a respected, valuable exhibition to connect with the industry. We look forward to having quality discussions on how Miraclon can support trade shops and converters to enjoy the productivity and efficiency benefits they need to improve their financial bottom line while still being able to differentiate themselves from competitors in the packaging value chain.

What kind of audience are you expecting at Labelexpo India?

While we expect it to be a must-attend event for much of the tag and label converter, trade shop, and supplier communities, I’m sure we will once again see a broader audience of packaging print professionals interested in viewing the latest technologies that touch their industries and applications too.

What innovations have your company made in the past four years that you would like our readers to know about?

Since we became a standalone company in 2019 after the separation from Kodak, we’ve continued our innovation strategy and launched technology that enables our customers to become more efficient and raise their financial bottom line. This includes PureFlexo printing to address unwanted ink spread and, maximize efficiency, reduce unscheduled press stops; Flexcel NX Central to automate plate layout and maximize utilization; and the Flexcel NX Ultra Solution for solvent-free and VOC-free plate processing. Each of these technologies offers customers a step-change in production.

What are your views on the growth of the flexible packaging, folding carton, and label industry?

I continue to see accelerating adoption of flexo and believe that will continue for the foreseeable future. The efficiency and sustainability benefits that the right flexo technology can bring to the production process are especially important given the economic outlook globally. That is also why our innovation strategy continues to focus on enabling Flexcel NX technology users to enjoy all the efficiency and sustainability benefits that come with our technology while delivering exceptional shelf impact.

The impact, resilience, and growth of responsible packaging in a wide region are daily chronicled by Packaging South Asia.

A multi-channel B2B publication and digital platform such as Packaging South Asia is always aware of the prospect of new beginnings and renewal. Its 16-year-old print monthly, based in New Delhi, India has demonstrated its commitment to progress and growth. The Indian and Asian packaging industries have shown resilience in the face of ongoing challenges over the past three years.

As we present our publishing plan for 2023, India’s real GDP growth for the financial year ending 31 March 2023 will reach 6.3%. Packaging industry growth has exceeded GDP growth even when allowing for inflation in the past three years.

The capacity for flexible film manufacturing in India increased by 33% over the past three years. With orders in place, we expect another 33% capacity addition from 2023 to 2025. Capacities in monocartons, corrugation, aseptic liquid packaging, and labels have grown similarly. The numbers are positive for most of the economies in the region – our platform increasingly reaches and influences these.

Even given the disruptions of supply chains, raw material prices, and the challenge of responsible and sustainable packaging, packaging in all its creative forms and purposes has significant headroom to grow in India and Asia. Our context and coverage engulf the entire packaging supply chain – from concept to shelf and further – to waste collection and recycling. We target brand owners, product managers, raw material suppliers, packaging designers and converters, and recyclers.

In an admittedly fragmented and textured terrain, this is the right time to plan your participation and marketing support communication – in our impactful and highly targeted business platform.
