At the Indiaplast 2019 exhibition, Ashok Chaturvedi, chairman and managing director of Uflex Limited, emphasized on the importance of plastics and its recycling in India. According to Chaturvedi, it is too early to find a replacement for plastics and that the only alternative available as of now is wood. However, with the kind of requirement that exists, wood will not be a viable solution as all trees will have to be cut resulting in a drastic impact on the environment.

As far as recyclability and biodegradability, Chaturvedi said it is possible to recycle plastics. Uflex demonstrated its plastic recycling machine at a special Green Pavilion set up at the show. The Green Pavilion is a dedicated platform highlighting all the biodegradability and recyclability options for plastics and MLPs.

People are of the perception that plastics are not recyclable. It is for the visitors to see the possibilities of recycling plastics and converting it into something useful at the Green Pavilion. The machine displayed at the Green Pavilion shows how plastics can be recycled. Some of the delegates that have visited the Green Pavilion and taken a tour of the recycling machine were amazed by the results.

There is another feature called reuse. After recycling plastic, it can be reused in 10,000 different ways. I want to emphasize that it is possible to recycle and reuse the recycled plastic time and again. FP is the ideal solution for pacakging currently and the products packed in it are usable only because of the multi-layer packaging that protects the food from coming in direct contact with moisture and oxygen which may destroy the food. The packaging helps save all the essential properties of the edible stuff in it,” Chaturvedi explained.

He further added that Indiaplast 2019 has provided Uflex a good platform to showcase its solution for recycling plastics. Another striking feature of the Uflex recycling machine is its sustainable solution. The machine releases absolutely no toxins in the atmosphere. “When there is a complete solution for the waste plastics, the demand is bound to grow. This particular solution will encourage people to use more plastic-based materials. I also think that this is the cheapest and best possible option available in the market for packaging edible items. I would like to say again that the demand will grow and this technology will help to increase the demand of flexible packaging,” Chaturvedi concluded.
