An offshoot of five-year-old JGA Offset printing, Spectrra Prints has been set up for packaging printing and converting with an eye to exports. Located in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, Spectrra has installed a brand new, fully loaded and highly automated Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 6-color plus coater sheetfed offset press.
The press includes the Prinect press center with a futuristic wall screen and the Intellistart 2 automation options. “The investment in the XL-75 strengthens our commitment to serve a diverse client base across various verticals, as we explore a foray into overseas markets. We continue to rely on Heidelberg for quality printing equipment,” states Senthil Kumar, managing partner, Spectrra Prints.
“The XL-75’s make-ready can be as quick as 2 minutes, with fully automatic plate changes and the Intellistart 2,” comments Kumar. The Intellistart 2 patented assistance system automatically generates all the steps required for intelligent job changes while providing transparency across all active and queued processes, including complex make-ready procedures.
Automation saves time and materials
The Peak Performance Speedmaster XL 75 has the highest level of automation in its class, making it extremely user-friendly and economical. Discussing the USP of the press, Saseendran Baskaran, general manager – Press Solutions at Heidelberg India, states, “The innovative Roller Check Assistant of the XL 75 reduces reviews and adjustment of rollers by 30% versus manual adjustment. The wash-up devices for blanket and impression cylinders reduce the consumption of washing fluid and wash-up cloth. The blanket and the impression cylinder are washed simultaneously in all units, thereby reducing wash-up times, as well. The wash-up device of the inking unit also works with reduced amount of water and washing fluid.”
Spectrra’s parent firm JGA Offset Printing owns a Heidelberg SM 52 5-color and a Heidelberg double-color press for supplying print work to the many garment firms in and around Tiruppur. Spectrra is a packaging spin-off from JGA Offset Printing to capitalize on the huge demand for printed products for the garment industry, including tags, labels, wraps and monocartons. “It is very easy to stay loyal to the Heidelberg brand,” smiles Kumar, “Heidelberg’s appeal lies in authenticity, great service, and incomparable quality standards. The XL 75 is a right fit into our operational model that calls for shorter make-readies and the ability to accommodate a wide spectrum of substrates.”
The fully-automated Speedmaster XL75 minimizes operational footsteps and cuts make-ready and setup times drastically. With production speeds of 15,000 sheets an hour, the Speedmaster XL75 can handle tags, labels and cartons, and any substrate from lightweight paper to board, ranging from 0.0012 to 0.031 inches.
Looking ahead, Kumar envisions significant growth potential for the packaging industry. “In a few years, we expect to expand our infrastructure to cater to other segments of the packaging industry, in addition to deepening our penetration into global markets. Spectrra Prints is uniquely positioned for continued growth and success, and Heidelberg will be our beacon, as we make progress in our chosen path and priorities,” concludes Kumar.
