Talk and action on food losses and food wastage
The third edition of the Save Food Congress took place at the Messe Centre in Dusseldorf with a reiteration of its aims—bringing both awareness and action to a movement that needs to address the polarities of excess and want in a far too divergent world. The conference saw the renewal of agreement between the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and Messe Dusseldorf to continue their cooperation in the Save Food initiative. Save Food is one of the six initiatives of the UN KOP conference on climate change held in 2015.
B2B practices in Indian packaging need a digital makeover
The UV, HUV, LED and Multiwave LED story in India
In the early 1990’s, when we needed to print outdoor posters on synthetic papers from Yupo and Arjomari, we were unable to find any UV offset sheetfed press in the country. The first time I heard of a UV multicolor press was in Mumbai, when we saw samples of plastic cosmetic packaging for export by Utility Packaging printed on a second-hand Heidelberg multicolor press with conventional UV inks. (There was no other UV print curing system available at the time.) The first new multicolor press with full interdeck and end-of-press was the KBA Rapida 105 imported by Parksons Packaging for its Daman plant in 2005.

Sustainability shapes packaging for Asian ‘transumers’
As more Asian consumers live their lives on-the-go, spending more time in transit every day, they are increasingly consuming meals and snacks on the run. These ‘transumers’ value convenient food that is presented in pre-portioned and highly portable food packaging. But convenience is not the only thing driving the buying decisions of Asian transumers. They also want to lead sustainable lifestyles and this is putting brand owners under pressure to embrace sustainable practices and ensure their goods have minimum impact on the environment.
Henkel Adhesives’ engagement with the industry
It is an accepted fact that in India there is a severe lack of awareness, both among the consumers and a majority of companies involved in food as well as food packing business, about safety standards and regulations. However, in recent years the situation has improved, especially after a controversy surfaced two years ago involving a major multinational FMCG firm and its highly popular brand of instant noodles. Nevertheless, a large section of our population continues to remain exposed to subpar food standards. Adhesives solutions provider Henkel Adhesives has been extremely active in educating stakeholders, especially in non-metro cities, about food safety issues such as migration and food regulation.
KBA keyless inking technology for beverage can decoration
Koenig & Bauer (KBA) has pioneered the keyless inking technology for many decades. Waste-saving keyless inking units, which do away with cumbersome roller trains, were already used in anilox letterpress, flexo and anilox offset web presses in the 1980s and 1990s. In the field of waterless offset, they are today to be found in the sheetfed Genius 52 UV and in the quality-acclaimed compact newspaper press KBA Cortina.
