The aseptic paper board and laminated paper and foil solutions for liquid and food packaging continue to grow in product segments ranging from milk to alcoholic beverages. The main provider of both laminates and filling and sealing solutions in this segment has been Tetra Pak, which is practically the inventor of this category of packaging. While some forms of aseptic liquid packaging such as gable top cartons require a cold chain, the outstanding feature of the Tetra Pak has been its ability to significantly prolong the shelf life of food and beverage products without refrigeration.

In end January, we met Gianfranco Nespoli of Comiflex together with Ajay Tandon, president and chief executive officer – engineering and new product development, and director of Ultimate Flexipack and Sanjay Sabharwal, executive vice president of the Uflex engineering division. “Nespoli is a hardcore flexo man with close to 40 years of experience in flexo press manufacturing,” says Tandon. “So we have a technical tie-up wherein we are using their drawings, designs, their brains, their support, their component developments overseas and more—the agreement comes with a complete package.”

Noida-based Afflatus Gravures, one of the country’s largest cylinder-making companies, recently commissioned a new electronic gravure cylinder manufacturing plant in Kolkata. Inaugurated on 16 September 2016, the plant is spread across a 2-acre plot, and has space for ten electronic cylinder engraving lines.
