Komori Lithrone G40A 7-color interdeck UV plus coater offset press at Impressions' Jammu plant

Founded in Agra in 1948, the Amar Ujala newspaper group has steadily grown with 22 editions of its Hindi daily across six states and two union territories in India. In addition to its strong digital footprint, the group diversified into commercial printing and packaging in 2016 with the establishment of Impressions Printing and Packaging Limited (IPPL), led by its third-generation entrepreneurs, Varun Maheshwari and Tanmay Maheshwari. The commercial printing plant in Noida has reached new levels of quality and efficiency with the addition of a pair of long offset perfectors and a Founders web-fed inkjet monochrome press installed last year.

During our visit to their Noida office in September 2024, we reported that the group planned to commence its packaging operations at its Jammu plant in 2025. The company began operations on 1 June 2025, adjacent to its printing plant — set up in 2004 in the Bari Brahmana Industrial Area of Jammu — with a greenfield monocarton packaging plant.

“The idea was to have one complete location for both printing and packaging, including R&D capabilities,” says Varun Maheshwari. “It’s a strategic investment, given the growing industrial presence in the region. Several FMCG, pharmaceutical, and electronics companies have set up operations here, making it a prime location for packaging services.”

Maheshwari emphasized that the choice of machinery for the plant was a well-researched and deliberate decision. “We didn’t rush. We understood the industry, built our internal capacity, and then invested smartly.”

The machine portfolio includes a Komori Lithrone G40A 7-color interdeck UV plus coater offset press, a Bobst Nova Cut 106E die-cutting machine, an Eterna EFoil 1050 for hot foil stamping, Bobst Nova Fold and Eterna EFold 1100 folder-gluers, a Focusight carton inspection system, a Zhongke reel-to-sheet cutter, a KDX lamination machine, and an HPM cutting machine.

The newly installed Komori Lithrone G40A is known for its reliable high-speed performance and precise ink transfer. The 7-color offset press featuring UV print capabilities has a maximum speed of 16,500 sheets per hour and a sheet size of 710 x 1020 mm. It supports substrates from 0.06 mm to 1 mm in thickness.

In the highly configured press, there are four interdeck UV casettes and three at the end of the press and a long delievery with IR curing for enabling instant drying and printing on diverse materials, including synthetic and non-absorbent substrates—an ideal fit for premium packaging and commercial print work. The automation features include auto-registration and auto color correction with spectrophotometer and the non-stop feeder and delivery.

Maheshwari emphasized that the Impressions’s growth model is based on quality and sustainable business practices. “We’re growing organically. We aren’t chasing volumes—we want to build a reputation for timely delivery and uncompromising quality. We’d rather be known for excellence than for simply taking more orders at lower margins.” The Jammu plant integrates sustainability into its production processes, from using recyclable materials to mindfully taking into consideration and reducing the carbon footprint of each step.

He also highlighted the expertise of the Impressions’s team, noting that experienced professionals from the industry lead the sales, production, and marketing departments. “It’s all about building a profit-making company focused on long-term customer satisfaction and product innovation.”

With the Jammu plant fully operational, IPPL is now supplying to a growing customer base across the region, including FMCG clients in Punjab and Baddi. The company is also actively targeting larger national clients as it looks to expand its footprint and strengthen its market presence.
