Heidelberg Primefire 106 at drupa 2016
For many years, the drupa stage was dominated by Heidelberg. Then the world changed and the company lost its place at the centre of the print universe. It has been shaken and stirred over the past three years by CEO Gerold Linzbach, who was brought in to essentially restructure and bring the company back to health. Linzbach’s ideas which he says are based on close listening to Heidelberg employees and customers, seem to be working – although in fairness, some of the stern measures to slim down the company were initiated even before he took over. Now on the eve of drupa 2016 in May, Heidelberg has conjured up a rocking strategy and is ready to once again leverage the industry’s main event for its journey of regeneration and transformation.
Heidelberg Gallus at drupa 2016
We first had occasion to see the new CEO of Heidelberg Gerold Linzbach at the Gallus factory in St. Gallen in September of 2014 when the first prototype of the Gallus Labelfire 340 was shown to Gallus customers from around the world. The press was configured with Fujifilm Dimatix Samba inkjet printheads printing UV inks with a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi. At that event Linzbach openly said that it was one of the first results of Heidelberg’s strategy to work with best-in-class technology partners. That it was no longer possible for a company to build new high technology industrial products on its own. The event also demonstrated that although Heidelberg has several constraints such as a large human resource and financial repayments on its borrowings over the past five years, Linzbach seems nimble in both acquiring assets and at times divesting them.
Expansion plans include a new Heidelberg CD 102
