Major manufacturer of flexible packaging, BOPA films

The Save Food initiative has welcomed Xiamen Changsu, its first member from China. The company is one of the leading manufacturers of flexible packaging and biaxially-oriented polyamide films (BOPA). A BOPA film usually serves as a barrier in packaging to prevent interaction between the content and the environment and thus ensures a longer shelf-life. The company has state-of-the-art facilities in Xiamen, Fujian Province, and will now be contributing its technical expertise and ideas to the Save Food community.

Update on technical innovations for flexible packagin

Recently, the Japanese Society of Printing Science and Technology held a meeting to discuss new technologies aimed at helping the gravure printing industry succeed in an era dominated by short-runs. Although most long-runs in Japan would already be considered short-runs in many other countries, the increasing adoption of digital and flexo printing — more suited to short-runs — is hinting at a threat to the dominance of gravure printing in Japan’s flexible packaging market. Some of the technologies discussed at the meeting included proofing equipment designed to minimize printing machine downtime during onsite printing inspections, in-line spectrophotometer color matching, and efficient spot color formulation, among others. Many of the ideas offered by the presenters from both the gravure and inkjet printing industries were world firsts.

Setting the stage for new lines in 2017-18

Uflex’s packaging films division is one of the largest Indian manufacturers of packaging films on a global scale. It has altogether five polyester, CPP and BOPP packaging film lines at its base in Noida and additional film manufacturing lines in Dubai, Egypt, Mexico, Poland and the United States. “We started our global expansion in 2005 by setting up footprints in Dubai, Egypt, Mexico and other countries.” Apart from bringing Uflex a global supplier of packaging films and packaging materials much closer to its customers in over a hundred countries, the globalized manufacture of packaging films freed up the capacity at its plant in Noida for the fast growing Indian flexible packaging industry. “Establishing our global packaging film plants has given us leverage for a higher availability of films in India since what was earlier being exported is now being consumed in India,” says Jagmohan Mongia, Uflex’s joint president, Packaging Film Business – India.
